Memories
This morning facebook reminded me of a work I made in 2013 for an exhibition a friend @divineasvinyl put together. (Swipe to last image to see the older work) the exhibition was a celebration of Kōwhai park, Whanganui. I instantly decided I wanted to make a big long necklace from kākano kōwhai.
Hilariously enough at the time, i couldn't find Kōwhai seeds in the park. So @catherinemacdonaldartist let me raid her garden.
The shorter work shown is one made this year for a small group of work that will be included in one of the reopening exhibitions for the @sarjeantgallery ,Te Whare o Rehua.
Last year around December @nealalexis showed me how to make an 8 strand whiri, and helped me gather a bunch of seeds from the Kōwhai trees growing at Tylee cottage where she was staying for a residency.
It seemed appropriate to make this piece using that newly acquired technique.
