I made these after trawling Te Papa Tongarewa’s website for kapeu and kuru (traditional ear ornaments) and marvelling at the design skill in making a seemingly simple form. I realised quickly on my first few attempts that it was harder than I thought it would be to make a graceful kapeu, rather than a clumsy form. My version are cut from a flat sheet of metal- referencing the 2 dimensional nature of my monocular vision, and also as a nod to my initial research, where I am often looking at the objects flattened in a book or on a laptop screen.
Dimensions
80mm/112mm long total length including hook (approximately)
Materials
Sterling silver
Care instructions
Avoid contact with chemicals (such as perfumes)
Wipe gently with a damp cloth if cleaning is required
